Makinde takes over direct oversight of Tourism

The Oyo state Governor Engr Seyi Makinde has taken over direct oversight of the sector, citing the need to eliminate institutional bottlenecks and prevent mistrust.

‎The governor made this known while delivering his keynote address at the second edition of the State International Tourism Summit 2025 held at a popular Conference center in Ibadan.

Governor Makinde emphasized that the program was not merely a celebration of culture, but a platform to showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage and highlight the economic potential of tourism, a sector he said the State must fully embrace as a viable business venture.

‎He outlined key executive-level commitments aimed at advancing the tourism sector in the State.

These include assuming direct oversight of the sector, establishing a dedicated Tourism Investor Liaison Unit, ensuring transparent communication, and introducing a Fair and Enforceable Tourism Compact.

‎The Governor also revealed that the state is close to finalizing a new deal to upgrade Agodi Gardens into an international-standard tourist destination.
