Oyewumi family cautious Saka Balogun over remarks on late Soun | Ogbomoso Info
The family of the late Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III, the immediate past Soun of Ogbomosoland, has condemned remarks made by Dr. Saka Balogun, a former Chief of Staff in the administration of the late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, describing them as derogatory and unwarranted.
Dr. Balogun made the comments during a recent episode of the radio programme Ogbomoso Segiri, anchored by Josiah Adebayo and aired on Imole TV.

In a statement signed by Omoba Aderemi Oyewumi, the family dismissed the claims as false and malicious, stressing that the late monarch’s 48-year reign was marked by peace, visionary leadership, and unprecedented development in Ogbomosoland.
They noted that Oba Oyewumi contributed immensely to the town’s social, economic and political growth and was duly recognised with national honours — Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) and Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR).
The family further recalled that Dr. Balogun himself was a beneficiary of the late monarch’s generosity, citing how Oba Oyewumi facilitated his appointment as Presidential Liaison Officer during the Shehu Shagari administration and even provided him temporary accommodation in one of his Ibadan properties.
“It is ironic and ungrateful that Dr. Balogun, a known beneficiary of Kabiyesi’s magnanimity, would now attempt to disparage his legacy,” the family said, accusing him of a long-standing pattern of political opportunism and betrayal.
They urged the public to disregard what they described as baseless and provocative claims, warning against attempts to distort history for personal ambition or vendetta.
The family concluded by reminding Dr. Balogun of Islamic teachings on respect for the dead and urged him to desist from making disparaging remarks about a revered traditional ruler who can no longer defend himself.
