Soun visits Tinubu, seeks FG’s intervention on water, power, healthcare others

‎President Bola Tinubu says Nigeria’s economy has stabilised and is now gaining global recognition, just two years after his administration launched sweeping economic reforms.

‎Speaking at the State House on Tuesday while receiving the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Oladunni Olaoye, and other royal fathers, Tinubu said decisive measures such as ending fuel subsidy, tackling currency arbitrage, and cleaning up corrupt revenue channels have restored confidence in the country’s economy.

‎“Years of neglect and self-deception denied Nigeria the revenue needed for progress. We had to take bold actions. I’m glad to tell you today that the economy is stabilised. The bleeding has stopped. The patient is alive,” the President said.

‎Tinubu credited public patience and support for the reforms, adding that his government is pursuing aggressive infrastructure projects while prioritising education through the newly established Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to ensure no student drops out due to poverty.

‎The Soun of Ogbomoso praised the President for “bold leadership,” citing the impact of fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange reforms, and education funding. He also commended the award of the long-awaited Oyo–Ogbomoso Road dualisation contract and requested federal intervention in power, water, healthcare, and agricultural research to transform Ogbomoso’s mango and cashew production.

‎Tinubu promised to direct relevant ministers to address the monarch’s requests, saying improved agriculture and infrastructure would accelerate self-sufficiency and growth.

‎The meeting was attended by five other kings representing Ogbomoso’s traditional councils, alongside prominent indigenes including Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare.
